2, aged 71 years. He spent his early life 011 the farm, afterwards learned the cabinet-making trade and set up in business as cabinetmaker. and undertaker. He moved to Lawrence, Kansas, where he was engaged in this business for over nity years. Desiring LO spend the evening of his life at the old home, he came to Pennsylvania and bought the home farm from his brother.

James. He returned to Kansas and disposed of his business and moved east last March. He is survived by his wife, two sons, F. H. of Westport, and John of New York City; these brothers and sisters: Mrs.

Annie McDonald of Texas; Mrs. Kate Anderson, Iowa; Miss Mame of Concord; Norton of Chambersburg; Edward, Des Moines, Iowa; and James of Concord. Interment at Concord. Dr. James B.

Shively Dr. James B. Shively died at his home in West Chester Monday ing of heart trouble after several weeks illness. He was born and spent his early life at the old homestead in Greene township, near Woodstock. After his medical trainjng.

Shively of Fayetteville was a brother. Interment will be made at Spring Hill cemetery, Shippensburg. Isaac W. Seibert Isaac Webster Seibert died at his home in Spring Run Nov. 15 at 10 a.

m. after an extended illness. Ie is survived by his wife and one brother, David Seibert, of Concord: also one sister, Mrs. Maria McCartney, of Dry Run. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church Monday morning, Nov.

18, conducted by the Rev. D. I. Camp. Josiah Hess, Jr.

Josiah Hess, jr. died of pneumonia following an attack of influenza, at his home near Williamson on Wed nesday morning. He was a strong active young man and highly respected in the community in which he lived. He was unmarried and made his home with his mother and sister who survive him. He was aged 33 years and 9 months.

Funeral at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon, sevices at the home and interment at Brown's Mill cemetery. Jacob Summers Jacob Summers of Marion died Thursday evening at the home of his son, J. Emery Summers of Chambersburg R. R. 7.

He was in his usual health, until just a few minutes before he died, and spent the day in Chambersburg. He was aged 87 gears, 6 months and 9 days and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church at Marion. He served in the civil war and was a member of Housum Post, G. A. R.

During his life he was engaged in farming. He is survived by these children: Mrs. Clara Bush of Marion, with whom he made his' home, George D. of town and Emery of R. R.

7. Two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Minehart of Illinois and Mrs. Susan Stoops of Five Forks, seven grandshildren and one greatgrandchild also survive. Funeral on Sunday at 2 p.

Rev. S. S. Garnes Rev. Samuel S.

Garnes, pastor of Holy. Trinity Church, Hershey, died yesterday morning of influenza, which is again breaking out in the eastern part of Dauphin county. Rev. Mr. Garnes had been pastor of the Hershey church for a period of six months only, coming from the Trindle Springs Lutheran church of Mechanicsburg.

During his short pastorate be had made many Friends, was very successful, and was very much Ho was 28 years old. His father. Rev. Samuel H. Garnes.

is pastor of the Lutheran Church at Newville, and his brother. Rev. Herbert Garnes, is pastor of the United Evangelical Church of Hummelstown. Rev. Garnes was the son of Rev.

school at both. Warnesboro and Merscholl at hoth Waynesboro and Mercershurs. this county. and is now sorving charge in Cumberland a coputy. His mother is a daughter off the late P.

M. Shoemaker of Upper strasburg. The deceased 1S survived by his wife, father, mother and one brother, Rev. Herbert Garnes of Hummelstown. He was born in Waynesboro, February, 1891.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Dr. Aikins, president of Susquehanna University, will be held Saturday at 2 o'clock. at Hummelstown. Mrs.

Sarah C. Smith Mrs. Sarah C. Smith died at her home near Williamson Wednesday. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy.

She was aged 70 years, and was the widow of the late Joseph Smith. She is survived by several children. The funeral was held from the home of her son Riley Smith, Friday at one o'clock in the afternoon. Interment at Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle. M.

A. Fogal M. A. Fogal, a well known -resldent of Hamilton township died at his home Thursday at 10:301 from pneumonia, following an attack of influenza. He was aged about 45 years and had been employed on the state highways, before his last illness.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and is survived by his wife and six children; also by his father and several brothers and sisters. Joseph E. Crist Joseph Elmer Crist, formerly of Antrim township, died in a hospital in Spokane, Washington, of pneumonia following an attack of flu. Ho is survived by his mother, Mrs. John Lenherr of Mercersburg.

Sylvester Crist of Antrim, Mrs. Leroy Kuhn of Waynesboro and a half brother, E. L. Poper in Spokane. His remains are being forwarded to Greencastle.

Funeral will leave undertaker Detrich's office following the arrival of the body. Interment at the Dunkard cemetery at Upton. John Stamey John Stamey, son of Calvin Stamey died at his home in Roxbury, Dec. 2 of pneumonia, following influenza, aged 20 years. Mr.

Staamey was formerly employed at the Minehart and Etter sawmill but recently had been working in Chambersburg. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Mary Mackey, a small daughter, Mabel Catharine, his father and three sisters, Mrs. Clara Nye of Orrstown and Maude and Effie 0.1 Hagertown. st: Mrs. John Claire Irs.

Laura, wife of John A. Clair did at her home in Marion at 12:30 p. m. Friday, after a lingering illness She was a member of the Reformed Church at Marion and was 67 years, 4 months and 20 days old. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mrs.

T. Weagley and 'Mrs. E. C. Swartz of Marion and one son, Statler S.

Claire of Hagerstown. Mrs. Clair was the only child of the late Andrew and Fiana (Line) Statler, her father having been for many years the leading merchant in Marion conducting a general merchandise business. When quite young she was united in marriage to John A. Clair, a veteran of the civil war.

Services at the home at 1:30 Sunday afternoon. Interment private at Maplewood cemetery. Fred M. Durf Fred M. Durf, son of Geo.

W. Durf of Shippensburg, died near Cumbo, Tuesday evening at 8:30 o'clock, three days illness from influenza and pneumonia, aged 27 years. He is survived by his father Geo. W. Durf.

of Shippensburg and these brothers and sisters: George, Jesse and Samuel of near Shippensburg; Jacob of Mechanicsburg, John of Woodland, Mrs. E. L. Kreider of Springfield, Ohio; Mr. W.

E. Fegan of Shippensburg; Mrs. Stringfellow of Carlisle; Blanche, Daisy, Pearl and Rhoda at home. Jol Walters John Walter, a veteran of the civil war and one of Waynesboro's oldest and most respected residents, died Friday morning at 2:20 o'clock at his home, death being due to plications of old age. He was aged 83 years.

He is survive by his wife and the following children: Mrs. J. W. Schaffer of Waynesboro; Mrs. Charles Simmers of Shady Grove; Mrs.

Harvey Law of Harrisburg; Mrs. Lottie Walk of Harrisburg; also seven grandsons in the army and ten great grandchildren survive him. Mrs. George Lady Elizabeth Lady, wife of George Lady, died Thursday afernoon at her home in Mont Alto, after a week's illness with influenza, followed by pneumonia. She was aged 33 years.

She was a lifelong member of the United Brethren Church and hesides her husband, who is seriously ill with flu, the following children survive: Alberta, Harry and Kathlene, also her father and mother and these brothers and sisters: James Brumbaugh, south of Waynesboro; George Brumbaugh, Oscar Brumbaugh, Mont Alto and Mrs. Lillie Snodderly, Waynesboro. Charles L. Sharar Charles Leroy, son of Mr. and Mrs.

David D. Sharer, died at his parents home in Mercersburg, Friday, aged 5 years and 16 days. Funeral Saturday afternoon at 3 p. m. with interment at Fairview cemetery.

Robert F. Sipe Robert F. Sipe. one of Carlisle's best known citizens and a native of the town, died at his home, 150 North Bedford street, at 5:45 Saturday morning aged 70 years. For many years he was in the undertaking business.

He was affiliated with the First Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Charles D. Sipe of Carlisle and William F. of Waynesboro, and by two brothers, Albert W. Sipe and Charles H.

Sipe, a well known C. V. R. R. conductor, also of Carlisle.

Frank C. Eshelman Frank C. Eshelman died of flu at his home on Elder street at 5 p. m. Saturday.

He was aged 26 years, 6 months and 27 days and is survived by his wife and one daughter, Thelma May, his father, John T. Eshelman, and several brothers and sisters. Funeral will be held from his late home at 2 p. m. Tuesday.

Interment at Greencastle. Mrs. Samuel Pogue Mrs. Bertha wife of Samuel Pogue, deid at her home in North Federal street at 9:30 Sunday morning, after a short illness with fu and pneumonia, which she contracted while caring for some of her neighbors. She was aged 37 years, 7 months and 29 days and is survived by her husband and one son, Glen A.

Her father, S. R. Miller, and three brothers, Harvey and Frank of town and Paul, in France, and several sisters in Harrisburg also survive. Funeral from the home at 3 p. m.

Myers, at Upton, from pneumonia following influenza. She is survived by her parents, one brother and a sister. Mrs. Cyrus Wingert Mrs. Cyrus Wingert died on Friday at her home near Edenville from pneumonia, following infuenza.

She is survived by her husband, a child several days old, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Myers, brothers, Samuel, and Harvey, and one sister. be Mrs. Charles Goss Mrs.

Charles Goss died on Saturday at her home near Edenville, after 2 short illness from influenza and pneumonia. She is survived by her husband and three children, and her mother, Mrs. Hendricks. Joseph Weibley Joseph Weibley, who had resided in Newville for several years, being employed by the Pennsylvania Milk Products Company, died at his home in Shippensburg Saturday morning. Te.

Himes Dr.

Charles F. Himes of Carlisle, noted scientist, scholar, instructor and author, at one time acting wident of Dickinson College and for 30 years a distinguished member of the Dickinson faculty died in the hospital at John Hopkins versity in Baltimore, where he was taken Monday for treatment, at seven o'clock Friday in his 80th year. He was one of Carlisle's best known citizens, active in all things that pertained to the uplift of his town and as well active and prominent in the scientific world for half a century, having membership in local, state and national societies and associations. Dr. Himes was born June 2, 1838.

in Lancaster county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Himes, who when he was a boy moved to Adams county. Dr.

Himes was married in 1868 to Mary Elizabeth Murray of Carlisle, who passed away in 1904. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Thomas E. Vale of Carlisle and Mrg. Metzel, wife of Rev.

Geo. B. Metzel of Sullivan, Illinois. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Helen Kieth, and his brother, Prof.

H. O. Himes, both of Gettysburg. Mrs. Paul R.

Brown Mrs. Miriam, wife of Paul R. Brown, died on Sunday of influenza at her home in Washington, D. C. Paul Brown is the son of Mr.

and Mrs. B. F. Brown of 938 Wilson avenue. He and his sister, Mrs.

Glada Cann, who, with her mother has been visiting at his home, have also been quite ill with influenza and are now convalescing. Mrs. Brown will be buried in Virginia. Miss Bertha Garver Miss Bertha Garver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Amos Garver, Waynesboro, after an illness of eight days with pneumonia, died Sunday evening about 4:30 o'clock at the home or her parents. She was aged 27 years. The deceased was employed for the last year on the clerical force of Frick Company. She was a member of the Methodist Church and Sunday school. John Powers Neff John Powers Neff of Shippensburg died at the Harrisburg Hospital at 4:10 p.

m. Sunday. He entered the hospital last Thursday and was operated on for appendicitis on Friday. He was a baker by trade and was a member of the firm of Neff Brothers, who conducted a bakery in Shippensburg. He was 37 years, 6 months and 15 days old and was a member of the Reformed Church, I.

Mrs. John Hensel Mrs. Sophia, widow of John Hensel, died at the home of her son, Charles Hensel, one mile north of Newburg last Friday night, after a lingering illness from complications. She was born in Germany 75 years ago and was a member of the Church the Brethren in Christ.

She 1S survived by two sons, Charles and John of near Newburg. Funeral was held at 10 o'clock Monday morning and interment was nade at Mowersville. Mrs. Simon Zearfoss Mrs. Margaret Zearfoss, widow of Simon Zearfoss, died at the hone of her daughter, Mrs.

Olive Tracy, wife of David Tracy, died Saturday night at her home, Blue Rock, death being due to neumonia. She was aged 22 years The deceased was the daughter of and Mrs. S. C. Bonnar and was corn in the vicinity of Blue Rock.

She is survived by her parents, husband, and three small children. Mrs. Catherine Fries Mrs. Catherine Fries, wife of Edward F. Fries, died Tuesday at her home, 72 East Queen street, after an 8-days illness from pneumonia.

She was aged 40 years, 3 months and 18 days. She was born in Chambersburg and was a daughter of the late Lewis Stepler. She was a member of St. John's Reformed church- and a good wife and loving mother. She is survived her husband, Edward and these children: Marie Frances Edward and Robert also by her mother, Mrs.

Lewis Stepler, and the following brothers and sister: Edward, Russell, Howard, and Mrs. C. A. Yoh, all of town. Funeral notice later.

Mrs. Emma Caldwell Greencastle friends have received word of the death of Mrs. Emma Caldwell at her home in Philadelphia, Wednesday. Mrs. Caldwell was a sister of the late Mrs.

erick Klinefelter and she has been a frequent visitor to Greencastle. She was far advanced in the eighties. Mrs. Caldwell's only living sister, Miss Emma Wilson, who died in October. Joseph E.

Sites The bdoy of Joseph Elmer Sites who died in Spokane, Washington. was brought to Greencastle yesterday morning and the funeral was held from W. S. Detrich's undertaking establishment immediately after the arrival of the ten o'clock train. Interment was made at the Dunkard graveyard near Upton.

Mrs. Nathaniel Cuff Nathaniel Cuff, an aged colof near Mercersburg, died lingering illness. Several survive. Mrs. E.

B. Mull Mrs. ored lady after a children Mrs. Charlotte, wife of E. Burt Mull, died Tuesday at her home at Fayetteville, aged 62 years, 5 months and 19 days.

For many years she resided with her husband at Stoufferstown, removing a few years ago to their present home at Fayetteville. She was a member of St. John's Reformed Church and a good woman. She is survived by her husband and these children: Mrs. Charles M.

Hornbaker and Esther M. Funeral Friday morning at 11 o'clock with services at the house. Interment at Cedar Grove cemetery. Lewis Masonheimer Lewis Masonheimer, a well known citizen of Carlisle, for more than half a century, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kieffer M.

Rice, in that place on Saturday night of general debility. He was 78 years old last Thursday. Mr. Masonheimer was a native of this county. Mrs.

Pogue's Survivors Mrs. Samuel Pogue, who died at her home in North Federal street on Sunday morning, is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Frank Miller of town, Roy Miller of Savannah, Paul Miller in France, Mrs. George Myers of West Fairview and Martha Miller of Philadel- phia. Jacob Ault Jacob Ault. a well known resident of East Catharine street, died at his home Wednesday about 10 o'clock after a long illness.

Mr. Ault had been injured in 1890, when he was struck by a Cumberland Valley train as he was crossing the tracks on East Catharine street. Since then he had been a cripple. At the time he was driving a milk wagon. He was a member of the First United Brethren Church.

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Blanche, at home, and also one brother, John Ault of nette, this state. and a sister, Mrs. John Grove. Funeral services at the home Friday, 2 p. conducted by Rev.

L. W. Lutz. Interment at Norland cemetery, private. Michael C.

Crilly Michael C. Crilly, aged 72 years, died suddenly on Monday evening at 5 o'clock at his home in Waynesboro, death being due to a complication or diseases. He was the pioneer coal and wood dealer of Wayand was a member of the nesboro Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife and the children: H. C.

R. Zook of Hagerstown; Mrs. Daniel Baer of Waynesboro; Five Forks; Floyd Crilly, at home; Crilly of Baltimore, and brothers, Andrew D. Crilly of Patterson, Ohio, and Joseph Crilly of Washington state. Anna Laura Cashman Mrs.

Anna Laura, Cashman, widow of J. F. Cashman, died Monday evening at 6:30 o'clock at her home Waynesboro, death being due to in trouble. She was aged 56 heart years. She is survived by these children: Mrs.

Carey Beamer of Arnedtsville: William Cashman of Strawberry Ridge; Mrs. John Reed of near Waynesboro; George at home; John of Pittsburgh; Mervin at home; one brother, William Chapman of Ortanna. Willis Twyman Willis Twyman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Twyman, died at his home in Central avenue Tuesday.

He was aged 27 years, 10 months and 25 days and is survived by his parents, and these brothers and sisters, Charles of Cleveland, Manfuel of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Jennie son of Baltimore and Mary Twyman of Lancaster. Funeral at 2 p. m. Thursday; interment at Lebanon cemetery.

Jacob B. Burkholder Jacob B. Burkholder, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A.

Burkholder, died at the home of his parents near Keefer's Church at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning of pneumonia following an attack of fu. He was aged 35 years, 1 month and 3 days and 19 survived by his parents, Ezra and Mrs. Bessie Brechbill at home and Levi of Pleasant Hall. Funeral from the home at 9:30 Thursday morning, interment at Brechbill's burying ground. Adam West Adam West, a well known resi-5 dent of the northern end of the county died at his home at Upper Strasburg Wednesday a.

m. aged 67 years. He is survived by his wife and 7 children: Mrs. George Wise of Orrstown, Paul West of the National Bank, Mrs. Frank Timmons of Upper Strasburg, Mrs.

Hayse Leidig, Thomas, Wallace and Alice at home. Several brothers and sisters also survive. Miss Eliza Minick Miss Eliza Minick died Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Straus Minick at Stoufferstown.

Miss Minick had been seriously ill for several days. Following a nervous breakdown she was stricken with influenza which rapidly developed into pneumonia. She was a sister of Miss Mary Minick, the trained nurse, who was a victim of influenza, during the outbreak at Camp Devens, Mass. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Minick. She was aged: 21 years, 11 months and 4 days. The funeral of Miss Eliza Minick will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with services conducted by Rev. J. H.

Ake. Interment at Norland cemetery. Samuel M. Howard Samuel M. Howard died early Wednesday at his residence, 133 South Third street, from Bright's disease.

The deceased was born on January 1, 1843, and was a veteran of the civil war having belonged to Company 130 Pennsylvania vol'unteers and 21st Pennsylvania cavalry. He was captured. during the and served four months in Libby prison. Three children, Carrie, Mattie and George, all at home, survive him. Funeral Friday afternoon at three o'clock.

Interment eut Shippensburg. Mrs. Armour B. Tarner Mrs. Laura wife of Armour B.

Tarner, died at her home, 900 Wilson avenue, Wednesday afternoon after a ten days' illness with Au. She was aged 50 years, 6 months land 18 days and was a member of the First United Brethren Church. She is survived by her husband and six sons, Howard, in France, Garnet Clarence Robert Luther and Armour D. One sister, Mrs. J.

H. Hatmaker and four brothers, I. C. Walk of town, W. H.

and J. D. of Philadelphia and Samuel G. of Melville, N. also survive.

Funeral private Saturday afternoon at 3:30, with services conductled by Rev. Dr. L. W. Lutz.

Interment at Cedar Grove cemetery. Mrs R. Brown Mrs. Miriam, wife of Paul R. Brown died on Sunday, December 8, of pneumonia, after an attack of influenza, at their home in Washlington, D.

C. Paul Brown is the son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F.

Brown of 938 Wilson avenue. Mrs. Brown was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Turner of near Front Royal, Virginia.

She is survived by her husband and little daughter Jean; also her parents, three sisters and one brother all at home, and one brother in the army. She was a member of the Episcopal Church, and was buried at Front Royal, Virginia. Mrs. Eliza Ovelman Mrs. Eliza Ovelman, a highly respected citizen of Williamson, died at 3:30 p.

m. Monday of the infrmities of age. She was a good woman and neighbor and always ready to help the sick and afflicted. She was 86 years old and is survived by these children: Charles of castle, Mrs. Ada Wentling of Kauff- mans, Lida at' home and John in the west.

Funeral will be held Thursday afternoon, services in the Reformed Church at Williamson and interment will be nrade at Cashtown. Frank Hutton Frank 'Hutton of Newville died visiting his daughter, Mrs. John Handshew in- Harrisburg, Sunday of hardening of the arteries, aged seventy-seven. years. Mr.

Hutton was born and grew to (young manhood in Chambersburg and was a brother of the late Ed. (N. Hutton. He always made annual trips. to this place on Mother's Day to place flowers on his mother's in Cedar Grove cemetery.

He was a well known and highly respected citizen of Newville for many years and for a. long period WAS health officer. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of and of the Odd Fellows lodge. Mrs.

Christian A. Sollenberger Mrs. Mary H. Sollenberger, wife of Christian A. Sollenberger, died Thursday morning.
